Rich the Kid sat down with Billboard News' Catrise J to talk about his crazy year so far and his upcoming project. The rapper is riding the success of his first Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 with “Carnival” releasing his first solo project in four years.
Life is a gamble is due out sometime this month and is his fourth studio album. The project features Chief Keef, Offset, Quavo, Takeoff, Ty Dolla $ign, Ye, Peso Pluma, Rob49 and Bia, and is entirely executive produced by Ye and Ty Dolla. He dropped the first single, “Band Man,” a few weeks ago.
Rich talked about why it took him four years to get going in 2020 The boss, saying he's handling record label drama, but he's also been able to use the time wisely. “I'm really into behind-the-scenes stuff with labels,” he says Advertising sign. “But I feel like as time has gone on, I've been able to perfect my craft.”
“I've been able to perfect the songs and the music and I know exactly what the sound is, what I'm shooting for,” he adds.
The rapper also talked about the Latin album he's working on with his Dominican DJ, Ralphy Black. Rich says they tried to let the music flow organically as they made up songs on the road. Rich credits Ralphy with introducing him to Peso Pluma's music, which led the rapper to shoot the Mexican artist the DM that led to their recent song “Gimme a Second.”
When asked what's next for him, Rich ends the interview by exclaiming:Life is a gamble! The best album of '24! Life is a gamble, baby Yes!”
