Romy has revealed that The xx are back in the studio working on their fourth album.
The singer, songwriter and producer confirmed the news at Australia's Beyond the Valley Festival last weekend. narration NME that the trio sessions feel “pretty open” right now: “I think Oliver [Sim] and jamie [xx] And we all tried new things and learned a lot from different projects and I think it's pretty healthy to say, 'What have you learned?' What should we do now?'”
Although Romy's debut solo album in 2023, MIDDLE AIRfell firmly into the tradition of house and dance music, said to NME last year that he would return to playing guitar for the trio's next project. Regarding what the upcoming xx album will sound like, Romy shared that while it's still “completely open” and in the early stages of the process, he feels like “you'll still be able to say it's us.” Watch the interview below.
The xx's most recent album was 2017. I see you. They celebrated the tenth anniversary of their second album, Coexist, back in 2022 with an expanded, deluxe reissue of the LP. In addition to Romy's solo album last year, Oliver Sim shared his own solo LP in 2022 with horrible bastardand confirmed that year that The xx would “definitely” record new music in the future.
