Like a ghost in the machine learning to haunt again, ROSSY and Pauline Herr captivate on their new collaboration, “HOLY.”
Out now via Thrive, “HOLY” finds the pair reuniting to produce an aching bass anthem. There's a disarming tension here, a tug-of-war between longing and isolation that makes the song as relentless as it is tender.
Over an ethereal but forceful production, Herr's pointed question: “Do you think about me?” It hangs in the void like an unanswered text message at 3 in the morning. After the track's dizzying drop, both producers show off their skills on the break, where arpeggios flash like notification lights in the dark.
The genius of “HOLY” lies in how ROSSY and Herr capture that uniquely modern void: the paradox of feeling completely alone while surrounded by infinite ways to connect.
These two best friends, however, have supported each other throughout their respective careers in electronic music.
“Making music with your best friend and being able to pursue your dreams together is a pretty indescribable feeling,” says ROSSY. EDM.com. “Pauline and I wrote this song to encompass many emotions. We wanted this song to be healing with a chant of 'Do you think about me?' “It's not meant to be sad and bleak, but rather in a powerful way.”
The new song, he adds, comes with images loaded with symbolism and various motifs to convey its emotional core.
“Clown makeup sometimes represents feeling silly,” explains ROSSY. “The water represents what it feels like to be so consumed by emotion, anger and sadness that you feel like you are drowning, and the horse symbolizes freedom, running so far and healing.”
