Sam Blacky's transition into globally inspired music has resulted in some of his best work to date. This time, she's outdone herself by joining forces with Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Niniola for a soulful new song, “Ronaldinho.”
Available now via Easier Said, the song is a masterful performance by Blacky and Niniola, who have prepared a summer hit worthy of a club, a festival or a trip to the beach. The track's four-on-one rhythm is peppered with nuance and beautifully incorporates Niniola's stunning vocals for an experience that is both spiritual and uplifting.
However, the track is not simply a club-ready showcase. With lyrics inspired by iconic footballer Ronaldinho, it has a deeper meaning for both Blacky and Niniola, the former's adoration of Afro-house flourishing while the latter's Nigerian roots flourish with visceral storytelling.
“Over the years, my passion has become more and more integrated with what we know as Afro House,” Blacky said in a press release. “When the opportunity arose to work with one of the original and most iconic singers in that field, from Nigeria, there was no doubt. I heard what Niniola had done with the voice of 'Ronaldinho' and I knew I had to do it. “Do this song with her. “To have someone who is such an incredible storyteller, with such an incredible voice, who has lived this life from start to finish, brings a completely different message and meaning to the music.”
