Sam Ryder hopes his Christmas song will become a holiday classic.
The 34-year-old singer has thrown his hat into the ring for the annual holiday number one with 'You're Christmas To Me' and has been overwhelmed by the response to the song, which he hopes will appear on seasonal playlists. for the next years.
He told BANG Showbiz: “I am speechless [about the reaction]! I wrote the song on the train with minutes to spare because it was written for an Amazon Prime movie and I had to hand in my assignment that night.
“So I was on the train thinking, 'Right, I should write a Christmas song.'
“I'm a big fan of Christmas, I'm a big fan of the Christmas hits of the late 80s and 90s.
“Those big bombastic songs that we don't hear a lot anymore, unfortunately, so I thought, 'You know what? I'm sick of the sad pop Christmas, we're bringing back big, bomber-runaway-burning-sleighs,” and that's what we did.
“And people seem to like it. I'm excited! “
But Sam admitted he was “stressed” at the idea of having to do it live.
He said: “I didn't expect to sing it live, so I wrote it as high as possible, thinking not many people would hear it. It was just for the joy of writing a song like that, but now we're here, singing it live, so yeah, it's stressful.”
The 'Space Man' singer has always wanted to write a Christmas song, but his busy schedule has prevented him from going all the way.
He said: “I always have time for those open goal opportunities where people and the culture at the time think something is not good. It's time to strike.
“Eurovision was completely thankless when I went to it.
“Christmas Carols, I was a little late to the party with that, maybe two years, but I never got a chance to do it. We were always very busy.
“There's been a lot of Christmas songs out now, so what I can take away from them is that we're so grateful that ours seems to be hanging out with the Goliaths, and that's a blessing.”
Sam is looking forward to a Christmas of “absolute chaos” with his family.
Asked where he will spend Christmas, he said: “With my family at home. Like Home Alone, it's long the night before they go on vacation, like the house is mental, it's total chaos. So that's the kind of Christmas I'm going to have.”
