Saweetie will always be the coldest rapper. In a new interview, she talks about some of the not-so-hot moments of her recent years as she prepares for a new musical era.
In a new cover with Allure On Thursday, the “Richtivities” rap star shared details about why she hasn't let go of her teasing Music Pretty Bitch album — or any album, for that matter.
“I just feel like nobody cared about my music,” Saweetie said, referring to the people around her. “For me, music is sacred. It comes from your spirit. You can't finish an album in a week. That's why it's taking me so long. That's why I haven't released an album yet.”
The rapper shared that she felt like there was a big microscope on her in recent years as she juggled collaborations with companies like McDonald's, MAC Cosmetics and Crocs. She also admitted that she felt a lot of her music was quickly and more heavily criticized after release.
“I don't mean to spoil the mood,” he told the report. “But that's the way my career has been, realistically. We were constantly criticized for every drop. I was just very insecure. I'm a confident woman, but I was a very insecure artist.”
“There have been many times in the last two years that I have given up on myself,” he later added. “Whether people knew it or not, I felt myself giving up and I don't want to do it anymore.
She also talked about holding herself to extremely high standards in everything she does.
“As an artist the frequency changes. The music I was creating until now, in three months I could listen to it and say 'I'm not that girl anymore'”, she said. As for what's coming up, he teased, “It's just Saweetie.”
The first taste of new music arrived with “Richtivities” earlier this month, which included a sample of Willie Hutch's 1975 single “Love Me Back.” It marks Saweetie's first solo single of the year, following last month's “Do It For the Bay” with P-Lo.
