Scott Weiland died in December 2015, and nearly 10 years later, his widow Jamie Wachtel Weiland spoke openly about the details of the Stone Temple Pilots frontman's death, which she insists was No caused by a drug overdose.
In a new interview, Jamie shared some revealing details about the circumstances that led to his death. While he claims Scott had drugs in his system at the time, it was rather his years of drug abuse that caused his heart to fail. Due to the coroner's decision to rule it an accidental overdose, Jamie feels that Scott's legacy has been tarnished in some ways.
“I feel like he doesn't really get the praise, the respect and the recognition that he deserves,” she told the YouTube podcast. Appetite for distortion. “I feel like when he died, everyone thought it was tragic, but of course he overdosed, which wasn't a fucking overdose, and I tried to get that point across. He did not do it “.
She continued: “Because he had drugs in his system, the coroner had to rule out an overdose. But the truth is that Scott died because the main artery in his left ventricle was 95 percent blocked. That came from 10 years of heroin use, from an entire adult life of chain smoking. His heart stopped. Did he have traces of drugs in his system? He did. Did he know he was using? No, I didn't, because he lied to me, because I had caught him before and there would always be a big fight and I would be furious with him.”
Jamie remains adamant that Scott “didn't do heroin” and “didn't suffer a drug overdose.”
“His heart stopped because he had suffered a lot of abuse due to previous drug use in his life and smoking and excessive alcohol consumption,” she said.
At the time of his death in 2015, Scott was on tour with his band The Wildabouts while simultaneously facing financial difficulties, estrangement from his children, and the emotional weight of both of his parents having been diagnosed with cancer at the time.
Some felt that he was self-medicating to cope with these conflicts, and in turn, Jamie received criticism from some of Scott's fans in the years since his passing. She also lost a lawsuit filed seven years ago against Scott's estate over a prenuptial agreement entered into before his 2013 wedding over shared finances, sparking more turbulence.
“People can say whatever they want about things I did or didn't do,” Jamie said. “But the truth is that I did practically all the heavy lifting with him. She was alone with him trying to keep him safe and calm and get him to the right doctors and get him on stage, get him to rehearsals. It was just me. I was the guardian of all. And that was very, very fucking difficult. So when we talk about the comments that people make about me, about Scott, about our marriage, I basically want to tell everyone to go fuck themselves, because they weren't there. “They didn't know.”
Earlier this year, publisher Primary Wave acquired a partnership in Scott Weiland's music catalogue, presumably resulting in a financial windfall for the future rocker's family.
