Sean Kingston was arrested on fraud and theft charges in California on Thursday, hours after a raid on his Florida home.
Police issued a warrant for the Beautiful Girls singer, real name Kisean Anderson, following a raid on his rented mansion in Southwest Ranches, Florida and he was taken into custody hours later in California.
“This evening, police in Fort Irwin, Calif., arrested Kisean Anderson, aka Sean Kingston without incident on a Broward Sheriff’s Office arrest warrant for numerous fraud and theft charges,” the Broward Sheriff’s Office confirmed to multiple outlets. “According to investigators, he will be booked into jail in San Bernardino, Calif.”
Earlier on Thursday, the 34-year-old’s mother Janice Turner was arrested at the Florida property on multiple fraud and theft charges during the raid.
Before his arrest, the Fire Burning hitmaker wrote on his Instagram Stories, “People love negative energy! I am good and so is my mother! My lawyers are handling everything as we speak.”
The raid and subsequent arrests are the result of an ongoing investigation triggered by a fraud and breach of contract lawsuit filed against Kingston by Ver Ver Entertainment in February.
Dennis Card, an attorney for the company, alleged Kingston has not kept up with his payments on items within the home.
“He likes having bling, he likes showing off, he’s a showman,” he told NBC 6 South Florida. “My client has a $150,000 television sound system that’s in there, there’s also about $1 million worth of watches that are in there, there’s a $80,000 custom bed that was ordered. This is an organized systematic fraud.”
He explained to Miami’s Local 10 News that the company was hoping to retrieve the goods after the raid.
“We know that our property is inside this house right here, so as soon as the raid takes place we are going to have a crew of people in there to reassemble it and take it back to its rightful owner,” he said.
