The latest portal to Avicii's bygone era comes from SiriusXM, who has launched a new radio channel dedicated to the electronic dance music legend.
“Avicii Radio” will feature many hits from the late artist, as well as “never-before-heard music from his past live performances,” according to a press release shared with EDM.com. The channel is produced in collaboration with the Tim Bergling Foundation, the nonprofit organization launched by his family following his tragic death by suicide in 2018.
It will also feature appearances from several Avicii collaborators, including Nicky Romero, Armin van Buuren, Laidback Luke and Aloe Blacc, the latter of whom will “give voice to the channel” when it launches with a spin on their collaboration “Wake Me Up.” “That song, a generational dance anthem, remains Avicii's most listened to.
“I can't think of a better way to honor Avicii's life and legacy,” Blacc said. “This SiriusXM radio channel dedicated to the music she made, played and inspired is a lasting testament to her enormous influence.”
Coinciding with Mental Health Awareness Month, the channel aims to keep the conversation around wellbeing alive, fostering a spirit of community and support. To that end, it will also include audio messages from Vibrant Emotional Health, formerly the Mental Health Association of New York City, a community of wellness programs offering confidential emotional support to those in need.
“This is a great continuation of Tim's relationship with SiriusXM and Geronimo, SiriusXM's VP of Dance Music, who supported his music very early in his career,” added Klas Bergling, Avicii's father and director of the Tim Bergling Foundation. . “We appreciate his interest in promoting the emotional well-being of young people and the Tim Bergling Foundation and its goals.”
“Avicii Radio” is now available on the SiriusXM app.
