Soul Coughing is back! On Thursday, the Nineties alt-rock band announced that its four original members — Mike Doughty, Mark Degli Antoni, Sebastian Steinberg, and Yuval Gabay — will be reuniting for a tour across the United States later this year.
“We said it would never happen,” wrote Doughty on Instagram sharing the news.
Presale tickets go on sale Monday at 10 a.m. local time before going on sale to the general public on June 28. The group will kick off their tour in San Diego on Sept. 11, before stopping for two nights at San Francisco’s Fillmore, Chicago, Boston, and two shows at Brooklyn Steel in New York City to conclude the run.
The group released three albums between their 1992 formation and 2000 separation. Their first was titled Ruby Vroom, the second named Irresistible Bliss in 1996, and their third and final album, El Oso, in 1998. The final LP featured tracks such as “Pensacola,” “I Miss the Girl,” “Misinformed,” and “Circles.”
Doughty had intended to reunite Soul Coughing back in 2020, and ended up forming a new group called Ghost of Vroom. The band’s name was a reference to a once-planned companion piece to Soul Coughing’s Ruby Vroom. “It’s this ghostly version of Soul Coughing — this step that was never taken,” Doughty said at the time. “That idea stepped out of my consciousness and said, ‘This is where you’re at.’”
