Catalan rapper Morad began a six-month prison sentence on Monday (April 9) for reckless driving offenses committed in 2022. According to multiple Spanish News releases, the artist known for viral tracks like 'Se Grita' (2023), 'Sigue' (2022) and 'Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 47” (2021) voluntarily entered the Brians 2 prison near Barcelona.
Billboard Español has sent a request for a statement to Morad's management team.
Morad's sentence was due to his repeated failure to respond to court summonses for traffic offenses and driving without a license, according to the Spanish press. This is not the first time that the 25-year-old artist (real name: Morad El Khattouti El Horami) has run afoul of the law. there is also a pending case in which he is accused of inciting public disorder and aggravated assault.
In that open case, the prosecution requested a six-year prison sentence for Morad. The charges stemmed from an incident in July 2021, during the pandemic, in which Morad allegedly attacked and intimidated several Catalan police (Mossos d'Esquadra) with a Taser after violating the nighttime lockdown in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, near Barcelona.
In February, Morad and his legal team negotiated a two years in prison on these charges. As part of the deal, Morad offered to compensate the Mosso d'Esquadra agent with 10,000 euros (over $10,850).
Conditions for the reduced sentence included Morad not appealing his conviction and covering costs related to the damage caused to six police cars, totaling 2,400 euros (about $2,600), caused during the 2021 incident. Under the agreement, Morand will face additional penalties if he commits violations within two years.
In December 2021, his Bizarrap collaboration with 'Vol. The 47” topped the PROMUSICAE singles chart for two weeks.
