Swedish House Mafia's Steve Angello discusses the release of his latest single “Houligans” and the evolution of EDM, reflects on the success of “Don't You Worry Child”, teases a new album from Swedish House Mafia, talks about the collaboration of The Weeknd, the creator of “One,” shares the vision behind his record label Size and more!
Megan Mahar:
We're here with Grammy Award-winning dance legend Steve Angello. You may know him from Swedish House Mafia, but he has plenty of solo work and more. Your new single “Houligans” is out now.
Steve Angelo:
I was playing Coachella and I needed that energy and that old Hoover rave sound. I'm getting technical, but I like the Hoover's heavy sound. And then, yeah, it was like it was made straight for the show. It was to have an effect. Vocals were cut for light production. Well, it was like the Steve Angello music show, you know. And then I decided to delete it.
And that was Coachella in 2022.
Yes.
I was there. Great show.
It was a good show. It was fun.
Very entertaining. And you collaborated with fellow Swedish Mafia member Sebastian Ingrosso on “Skip.” Would you say these songs have a similar vibe?
Yes. I mean, it's like the clubby energy, right? It's like ravey clubby, gritty, a little darker. It is this energy.
Why did you two link up for “Skip” instead of it being a full Swedish House Mafia track?
I don't remember the process. I think we just, you know, the studio one night we made a song because you know we have our history. Me and Ax did songs in the early 2000s like we always did all three together and we mixed and matched, you know?
Stay tuned for more!
