Composer, lyricist, librettist and performer Shaina Taub, creator and star of the Broadway musical It's finehas received The ASCAP Foundation Richard Rodgers New Horizons Award.
Taub, who in June became the first solo woman to win Tony Awards for both book and score of a musical, is currently nominated for a Grammy for best musical theater album for her work on that show.
“Shaina Taub's groundbreaking work on It's fine As a multi-syllable composer, performer and creator he has inspired many, leading to two Tony Awards and an incredibly successful Broadway debut,” said ASCAP Foundation Executive Director Nicole George-Middleton. “She is a leading storyteller with a bright future and we are truly honored to support her on her musical journey.”
Established to honor ASCAP composers and lyricists making a major Broadway or Off-Broadway debut, the award is sponsored by Mary Rodgers and the Rodgers Family Foundation. Past recipients include Lin-Manuel Miranda (In the Heights), Pasek & Paul (Dear Evan Hansen), David Hein & Irene Sankoff (Come from afar) and Michael R. Jackson (A strange loop).
Taub received a 2019 Primetime Emmy nomination for Best Original Score and Lyrics for co-writing “This One's for You” for the previous year's Tony Awards telecast. He co-wrote the song with that year's hosts, Josh Groban and Sara Bareilles.
Taub recently played Emma Goldman in New York City Center's Encore! its production Comedian. She is the main lyricist for the stage adaptation of the 2006 hit film The Devil Wears Pradato music by Sir Elton John.
