SZA had a breast augmentation earlier in her career, but ultimately decided to have her breast implants removed after discovering she was at a higher risk for breast cancer.
The Grammy Award-winning singer joined the SHE MD podcast on Friday (March 8), where he went in-depth on all things health, including developing “painful” fibrosis after chest surgery.
“When I had my breasts done, my doctor took out some of the fibroid, but … there was so much fibroid, it was crazy,” she explained. “And he took it out. And so when I came back, a lot of the worries disappeared.”
“I like to see somebody spiritual about it, especially the breast cancer situation and the marker before I had the biopsy results and all that, I had talked to somebody, because I was like, 'I need to understand what's going on in the higher realms.' .
SZA continued: “I have markers on my chest, like metal markers on my chest for these fibroids, for these lumps or whatever, I'm not supposed to get breast implants. So basically, I put them in. They ended up hurting me. I have too much scar tissue because my breasts are too dense and I shouldn't have breast implants. And so I ended up getting extra fibrosis like with the tissue, and it didn't feel good and it was painful. So I took them off, and now it's just my boobs.”
The 'Snooze' singer revealed that her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and her aunt had a mastectomy, which meant her family history put her at greater risk of being diagnosed with cancer. Her mother has been cancer free for seven years. Even with the genetic warning flags, he still “punched and took [the implants] anyway.”
SZA was said to have had a “53 percent” chance of developing breast cancer, which dropped to “27 percent” after the implants were removed, according to SHE MD co-host and world-renowned OBGYN, Dr. Thais Aliabadi.
