Ahead of the reissue of their 2020 self-titled debut, a Texas-based slowcore act Teethe have released a new little single, “Thanks.” Sweet, slow and understated, the song comes with a stunning animated video by Rosa Sawyers that captures the melody's understated beauty across swirling Technicolor landscapes.
Like Mazzy Star or Low before them, Teethe manages to find an indescribable mix of crushing sadness and pure, sublime beauty: a feeling of paradoxically warm melancholy. “Everything was fine / Everything was fine,” sings the quiet lead vocals as the song sets its tone with nothing but acoustic guitar and heartbreaking melodies. Before long, the track opens with slide guitar and percussive touches, all while keeping it dreamy and subdued.
Even at only 70 seconds long, “Thanks” sonically and thematically fulfills the promise of its title. It's a touching expression of gratitude that doesn't feel the need to explain too much or dwell on it until the sentiment becomes boring.

“Thanks was written as an expression of gratitude to family and friends who have supported you throughout life,” says the band's Grahm Robinson exclusively. Consequence. “Like a thank you card, but in song format and not addressed to a specific person, but to everyone who has helped you become who you are in the present moment.”
“Thanks” comes as just the fourth single since the release of Teethe, a project originally released under the radar before spreading across the independent scene (and beyond) in the following years. They've now completed tours with artists like Hovvdy, Momma and more, and even made a fan of Kylie Jenner (hence the “beyond”).
