Tek is a 50 year old MC from Brooklyn, NY who is 1/2 of Smif-n-Wessun and a member of the Boot Camp Clik collective. He also has 3 solo mixtapes, 3 EPs and even a pair of full-length LPs under his belt. Tobacco 24KT & Price $$ respectively. That said: My expectations for MVP: MotiVational Purposes We're on a high just found out that Stu Bangas is coming fresh off the new G-Mo Skee album Filth City fully produced Tek's 4th EP from front to back.
“Back Inda Days” kicks off my mix with a kick and snare vocal sample that harkens back to when it was all fun and games, while “Hour After Hour” is this instrumental boom bam crossover that talks about how growling doesn't it never stops and what good is having a heart if you don't use it. The song “Agave” continues to dust up square at 5 with his Glock cocked, and the penultimate horn track “BOC (Ballin' Outta Control)” explains madly about ballin', but then “Big” closes shop with a triumphant snare boasting that everything is huge.
Some heads I know weren't too crazy about it Teksmokeelah EP almost a year and a half ago, but MVP: MotiVational Purposes it is undoubtedly a step up from its predecessor and even surpasses it Price $$ as the best thing Tek has ever done without his partner Steele. Stu Bangas' production is far more consistent than much of Tek's past solo material, and the latter resists overloading it with guests taking the lyrical drive.
