The Cure's first new album in 16 years, Songs of a lost worldfalls tomorrow (Friday, November 1). To add to the already incredibly high level of anticipation, the much-loved goth band performed two intimate studio sessions for BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 6. Even better, both sets are available on demand via the BBC iPlayer.
The band recorded both performances on Wednesday, October 30 in front of a small crowd of lucky fans. The sets notably serve as The Cure's first live performances in support of Songs of a lost world, with the band performing cuts from the album, as well as classics from their wider discography. Check out both tracklists below.
Both sets, as well as accompanying interviews with frontman Robert Smith, are available for fans to stream via BBC iPlayer for 30 days. stream The Cure's BBC Radio 6 music session hereand broadcast BBC Radio 2 In Concert by The Cure here.
The Cure will take to the Troxy stage in London on Friday 1 November for a full concert which will be streamed live on YouTube.
While it's exciting to have a new The Cure on the horizon, Smith recently revealed that the band is slowly preparing to retire. After the release of songs of a lost Worldhe promised that the act would play “fairly regularly” until the 50th anniversary of their debut album, at which point they would hang up their black capes and wipe the white paint off their faces.
Before songs of a lost World (for which vinyl and CD pre-orders are ongoing), The Cure's most recent album was 2008's 4:13 Sleep. Check out our review of lead single “Alone.”
Radio 2 song list in concert:
Only
photos of you
a fragile thing
High
a night like this
love song
the walk
between days
like the sky
From the edge of the deep green sea
final song
Bis
Lullaby
Friday I'm in love
next to me
Why can I be you?
BBC Radio 6 Music Session: The Cure Live Setlist
plainsong
last dance
I can never say goodbye
Burn
And nothing lasts forever
At night
a forest
All I ever am
Prayers for rain
