The Cure score their first UK Albums Chart No.1 since 1992 with new album Songs of a Lost World.
The band's 14th studio album was their first LP in 16 years since 2008's 4:13 Dream, and their first to land at No.1 in the UK since 1992 Wishwhich was previously their only UK chart topper
The Official Charts Company reports that the group outsold the rest of the quintet combined as they soared to victory and amassed 50,000 units during the week of release.
Speaking to OCC, frontman Robert Smith said: “It's extremely moving, really moving to experience such a wonderful reaction to the release of the new Cure album. To everyone who bought it, listened to it, loved it, believed in us all these years – THANK YOU!”
Songs of a Lost World celebrated with numerous shows in London and performances on BBC TV and radio stations and has seen the band's 2001 Greatest Hits the collection returns to the top 40.
Elsewhere in the top 10, Ed Sheeran's record collection +–=÷× (tour Collection) rebounds to No. 5 after physical releases, matching the previous high it achieved in September.
Following his maiden UK No.1 LP, Tyler, The Creator's Chromaticity held steady on the chart to finish at No. 3. The rapper's seventh studio album also landed atop the Billboard 200 upon its release, giving him his third consecutive No. 1 studio album on that chart.
Grammy Nominated by Charli XCX Brat continues its massive commercial success and moves up one spot to No. 4, while Sabrina Carpenter's Short n' Sweet jumps back to No. 2. The pair will go head-to-head for album of the year, among others, at the ceremony in February 2025.
