The Funeral Portrait Wins First No. 1 with “Suffocate City”

Funeral Portrait is ranked No. 1 in a Bulletin board chart for the first time, as “Suffocate City,” featuring Ice Nine Kills' Spencer Charnas, tops Mainstream Rock Airplay dated November 16.

Moving up one spot to No. 1, “Suffocate City” is the Atlanta-based band's first entry on any Bulletin board chart. The act is the third top-ranked skipper in 2024, following Wage War with “Magnetic” in August and Daughtry with “Artificial” in February.

In terms of acts dominating with chart-topping songs in Mainstream Rock Airplay, The Funeral Portrait is the first since Jelly Roll led with “Dead Man Walking” in May 2022. As Jelly Roll had makes songs based on Bulletin board before that, The Funeral Portrait is the first act to lead with a chart-topper on any chart since Nita Strauss, whose “Dead Inside,” featuring David Draiman, topped Mainstream Rock Airplay in January 2022.

As for Ice Nine Kills frontman Charnas, “Suffocate City” is also his first chart topper. As a soloist, he reached No. 16 on Mainstream Rock Airplay in February 2023, as featured on “Welcome to the Chaos” by Fame on Fire. Ice Nine Kills' best Mainstream Rock Airplay is “A Grave Mistake”, which reached No. 9 in 2019.

At the same time, “Suffocate City” is at No. 12 on the audience-based all-rock Rock & Alternative Airplay chart, after reaching No. 11 a week earlier. It earned 2.5 million audience impressions in the week ending Nov. 7, up 6%, according to Luminate.

On the most recently released Hot Hard Rock Songs multimetric chart (dated November 9, reflecting data for the week ending October 31), “Suffocate City” reached a new No. 17 high. In addition to his radio broadcast, he attracted 156,000 official US streams.

“Suffocate City” is the lead single from Greetings from the City of Drowningwhich was released on September 13th and has earned 12,000 equivalent album units to date.
