Prime Video The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power presented some notable twists in its first seasonThe biggest surprise of the prequel series, though, was the revelation that Halbrand (Charlie Vickers), the handsome human Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) had been hanging out with, was actually the nascent Sauron, the future Dark Lord/giant flaming eyeball who seeks to bring darkness to the good people of Middle-earth. And it’s Sauron’s quest for more power that looms large in the new trailer for season two, which debuts this week at San Diego Comic-Con.
In this new trailer, the rings that give the book its name are given center stage, and the Elven leaders are understandably a bit concerned about the impact said rings could have on the souls of those who wear them – not to mention the balance of power within Middle-earth, as well as the souls of those who wear them. The new full-length trailer also helps tease the return of other characters, including everyone’s favorite Harfoot Nori (Markella Kavenagh), who has traveled a long way to help her friend The Stranger, played by Daniel Weyman (who we’ll eventually see become the beloved Gandalf the Grey).
An all-female directing team – Charlotte Brändström, Sanaa Hamri and Louise Hooper – will be behind the camera for all eight episodes of season two. Actors including Ben Daniels, Ciarán Hinds and Rory Kinnear have joined the cast in undisclosed roles for the new season, alongside returning cast members Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Maxim Baldry, Daniel Weyman, Benjamin Walker, Nazanin Boniadi, Morfydd Clark and Ismael Cruz Córdova.
