While the dust seems to have settled on the Kendrick Lamar and Drake feud, other rappers are still giving their take on the massive battle that swept the hip-hop world and pop culture.
TI pulled up Big Boy's Neighborhood on an episode that aired on May 16, where he dissed Drake-K. Dot battle as Big Boy pressed him with questions. Tip believes Cole chose “peace and quiet” when it comes to bowing out of the controversy after dropping “7 Minute Drill” (which he later pulled from streaming services after his apology to Lamar at Dreamville Fest).
“You have to have a thick skin,” he said. “You have to be really unruffled and undisturbed. We don't know the temperament or sensitivity of Cole's dynamic. We've never seen Cole upset, we don't know where this will lead him. That was pretty mature of him.”
As for the outrageous claims from both sides, TI says he doesn't believe everything he's hearing. “I just appreciate the skill sets and the presentation — the art,” he explained. “I try to take everything with a grain of salt. Everything they say can't be true.”
The “What You Know” rapper continued, “There's got to be some embellishment or some ambiguous nature to some of it. It can't all be true, but I mostly hear the double, quadruple commands and metaphors and just the skill with which they present their creations.'
Kendrick and Drake's peers may not be as excited as fans about the beef, as TI believes some may have had their release dates and release plans thrown out and pushed back as a result of the feud taking over a ton oxygen in rap ecological. system in the last month.
“They kind of made it work for some others who were planning to leave during this time,” he said.
Drake released “The Heart Part 6” on May 5, and Kendrick hasn't responded since, signaling the end of the war. K. Dot's “Not Like Us” ruled last week's Billboard Hot 100, while his “Euphoria” diss track came in at No. 3 in its first full week of tracking ahead of Drake's “Family Matters” (No. 7 ) in a hostility. – full top 10.
