By Ralph Beauchamp
What's new pussy. Sir Tom Jones (knighted 2006) brought his “Ages & Stages” tour to a sold out Mohegan Sun on 5/9. last time i saw Jones about 30 years ago in Atlantic City and was completely blown away. Well, how could I not watch this icon's Mohegan Sun show. My wife was extremely excited as she is a huge fan and this was her first chance to see him live. We left, not knowing what this 84-year-old jester would sound like. As it turned out, Tom JonesHis voice was as strong as ever and his scenes were truly captivating. He hasn't lost a minute.
Tom Jones it may not have the spin moves it once had, but who cares. His singing was spectacular and the stories about his life entertaining. Everyone in the arena felt his warmth and the pure joy he exudes on stage. Plus, my wife still found him sexy. Truth be told, so did I. The age just happened Jones they mature like fine wine. As I scanned the crowd, I couldn't find an empty seat. Speaking to a woman and her mom at dinner before the show, she informed us that it took 3 hours to get her tickets. That has to be a record for Mohegan.

Suitably Jones opened with “I'm Growing Old”, which is a Bobby Cole cover. He had the house firmly in his hands from the start. From there, he went on to a Bob Dylan song, “Not Dark Yet.” Jones then he talked about his first trip to New York and his love for Jerry Lee Lewis. Right after that, he hit his smash hit, Leo Reed's “It Not Unusual” and of course the audience responded with tons of cheers. This was followed by a wonderful cover of “What New Pussycat” written by Burt Bacharach. Another bed followed. Jones he was killing it from the start.
'The Windmills of Your Mind' was followed by a damn seductive 'Sexbomb'. all the time, Jones he was telling his stories. He talked about meeting Willie Nelson and mentioned that he was 91 years old and therefore had a lot to look forward to. Cat Stevens' 'Popstar' came out impressively. “Green Grass Of Home”, which brought back fond memories for my wife Jenn, led to another Dylan cover, “One More Cup of Coffee”. That wasn't even half of his 22-song set. Man has stamina. Also, Tom JonesThe band was amazing. Each musician was masterful and filled the arena with perfect musical aromas.
“Across the Borderline,” “Talking Reality Television Blues,” “I Won't Crumble with You If You Fall” all flow into a monumental Leonard Cohen “Tower of Song.” “Delilah” was next and the panties started flying. It's great that this tradition of good humor continues. It brought a laugh from both my wife and me. Throughout the performance, a gentleman sat in the standing floor seats and danced from the very first note. It definitely put a smile on my face. He was so into it.
Jones continued with a trippy 'Lazarus Man' by Terry Callier. “You Can Leave Your Hat On” and “If I Only Knew” ran into the final song of the main set, Prince's “Kiss.” By this time, everyone was on their feet enjoying the groove. His oncores were equally impressive. Chuck Berry's “One Hell of a Life”, “Strange Things Happening Every Day” and “Johnny B. Goode” led to a triumphant “Great Ball Of Fire”. Ending with a Jerry Lee Lewis song seemed fitting enough.
The whole night was like a magical journey that Sir Tom Jones weaving for his devoted fans. Let's hope it won't take another 30 years to see his greatness again. If you get the chance, I recommend you catch this dynamic personality while you can. Man is a beast.
