Azealia Banks she was once considered one of the best female rappers of her generation, but has gained more notoriety lately for her fiery rants against the culture. Once again, the Harlem artist took aim with barks Beyoncé and Jay-Zsparking outrage and criticism from the Beyhive and beyond.
Beyoncé updated the world after sharing details behind her upcoming studio album, Act II: Cowboy Carterthe long-awaited sequel to 2022 Act I: Rebirth. The Houston superstar detailed the impetus behind the album and expressed her gratitude that her song “Texas Hold 'Em” became No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, the first black woman to do so via a country song.
Azealia Banks took to social media and had a lot to say about her upcoming album release, taking shots at Beyoncé's husband in the process.
“Wow, didn't we try to put even a little effort into a more artistic title?” Banks wrote via her Instagram Stories feed on March 19. “But I live for whiteyonce Donatella Bianca Bardot DOWN, but I'm kind of embarrassed about how you go from baobab trees and the black parade to this literal pick me stuff.”
Banks added, “Like you do dumb things like blacklist some white women (Dixie chicks) at the country music awards and they'd never do the same for you. You're always sharing your platform with white women who are so jealous of you but have such a long history of sabotaging other black careers.”
Hov caught up in the battle with Banks saying, “Ah, I'm so sorry for Jay-Z and his hyper-strategy of anything beyonce to the point where it's clearly his influence and not the real Bianca Bardot. Somebody tell Jayz that his strategies are bad and Beyonce has better ideas.”
OK then.
On X, formerly Twitter, backlash erupted from all sides over Azealia Banks' comments. Some suggested that Banks focus on producing new music, while others agreed with some of her points, though some did so reluctantly.
