Ronan Bennett, its creator Top Boysays he's currently in talks with Netflix about a spinoff series featuring Jaq, one of the show's central characters.
As he spotted Deadline, Ronan Bennett, 68, sat down with the BBC's Nihal Arthanayake and shared a few details about the potential spinoff with Jaq Lawrence, played by Jasmine Jobson. Bennett says he is in talks with production and production company Cowboy and that Drake would return as an executive producer.
Bennett says that while he thinks Netflix might be a little upset about him being mentioned in the development, he can't confirm if the show will see the light of day.
“You never know if they're going to get made,” Bennett said. “And actually, most of the shows that get developed don't actually get done. You can write the script and, for whatever reason, they don't happen. So you end up looking a bit silly for mentioning it. But I have hopes that this will work.
Starring Ashley Waters, Kano and the aforementioned Jobson, Top Boy remains one of Netflix's top UK shows. The show originally aired on the UK network, Channel 4, and was initially canceled after two seasons. Drake helped revive the series, creating seasons 3 through 5.
