Troy Ave was released from New York's Rikers Island after being held since February.
Honor the occasion with one Post on Instagram on Monday (August 26), sharing a photo of himself in front of a Rikers Island sign holding a bag of cash, a red Lamborghini Urus by his side. He captioned the post: “To be home!”
In a video clip shared by DJ Akademiks, the rapper can be heard saying, “We're out. I want to go straight to the airport.”
Earlier this year, the Brooklyn rapper was delivered to begin his prison sentence for his role in the 2016 New York City shooting that left his bodyguard Ronald “Banga” McPhatter dead. Troy, who was scheduled to open for TI that night, got into a fight with opponent Darryl “Taxstone” Campbell in the green room before he was given a chance to perform. Campbell — who shot and killed McPhatter, and also shot three others — was convicted on charges of first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault, one count of second-degree assault and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was sentenced to 35 years behind bars.
On the day Troy surrendered, he shared a video message on Instagram. “In order to run to court, you may not see me for a while, but know that the streets are a myth,” he said. “Someone shot me. Instead of lying down and dying, I would be a hero, a martyr. I'm taking the gun and the bust back.”
He added, “Here it is, here are the consequences. We don't cry over spilled milk. You take the lemons and make lemonade. You will continue to support it and continue to run it. And send prayers. prayers count more than anything else… I'm out of here.”
Initially charged with attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon, Troy and his legal team negotiated a one-year sentence in exchange for his testimony against Campbell.
