Duane “Keefe D” Davis, who was accused of killing Tupac Shakur, was granted bail and house arrest.
It has been detected The HuffPosta Las Vegas judge set Davis' bail at $750,000 for the Los Angeles gang leader accused of orchestrating the 1996 slaying of the legendary Hip-Hop star.
The judge also said Davis could be placed under house arrest after Davis' lawyers successfully argued that their client does not pose a danger to society because of his health problems.
Per The HuffPost:
Court-appointed attorneys for Duane “Keffe D” Davis told The Associated Press after the hearing in Las Vegas that they believe he can post bail. They had asked for bail not more than $100,000.
Attorneys argued in a court filing a day earlier that their client — not witnesses, prosecutors said — was in danger. And they say their 60-year-old client is in poor health after battling cancer, which is in remission, and won't leave to avoid trial.
“We believe he can” post bail, Public Defender Robert Arroyo said after Tuesday's hearing.
Attorneys for Duane “Keefe D” Davis had a solid argument
Davis' attorneys also called the attorneys for misrepresenting a jailhouse phone call and a list of names that went to the Davis family.
Attorneys pointed to prosecutors Marc DiGiacomo and Binu Palal's use of the term “green light” during a jailhouse call in October, calling it a “plain error.”
The prosecution argued to the judge that “In (Davis's) world, a 'green light' is an authorization to kill.”
Prosecutors say Davis' words from 2008 police interviews, a 2019 memoir and the media implicated him in one of the world's most high-profile cold cases.
Davis' legal team says his descriptions of Shakur's murder “were done for entertainment purposes and to make money.”
We will continue to monitor how this case develops.
