U2 took center stage at the 2024 Grammy Awards on Sunday (February 4) and performed “Atomic City” from the Sphere in Las Vegas, where recording cameras were allowed inside the venue for the first time.
Sphere has been the home base for the legendary Irish rock band since September 2023 when they first started their residency. The band were in top form as they performed their latest album, “Atomic City,” which became their 14th No. 1 on Adult Alternative Airplay in November. After their performance, U2 frontman Bono introduced the nominees for Best Pop Vocal album, with Taylor Swift Midnight successful.
As for the quartet's upcoming U2: UV Achtung Baby Live at the Sphere residency, the band will continue through the spring after announcing new dates in December. The show will now run until March 2. U2 will also play back-to-back shows during Super Bowl weekend. During one interview with Zane Lowe Back in December, the band gave fans a taste of what Sphere was made of.
“Walking in and actually seeing our stage there and seeing our instruments and light and the finished building was a big moment,” U2's The Edge told Lowe. “That's when it got really real. When you actually imagine there will be a person in each of those seats. The closeness is incredibly intimate, this is so amazing. It's only 18,000 (seats), but everyone will have that perfect view of the stage. Unfortunately, with this incredible visual we will have our work cut out for us to get people's attention. It's like flying down, how do you make that personal connection in this big space?”
