Tore Ylwizaker, keyboardist for Norwegian band Ulver, passed away on the night of his 54th birthday (August 16). The cause of his death was not disclosed.
Ulver announced the sad news and paid tribute to their late bandmate in a statement on social media:
“With a heart full of holes, we have to inform you that our brother of almost thirty years, Tore Ylvisaker (Ylwizaker), has passed away. He passed away on the night of August 16th, his 54th birthday. It is too much to take in right now. We will be back as soon as we recover. Rest in peace, dear friend. We love you forever. ULVER”
Ylwizaker joined Ulver in 1997 and first appeared on the band's 1998 offering. Themes from William Blake's The Marriage of Heaven and Hell.
His addition to the line-up coincided with a marked artistic shift for Ulver, which began as a second-wave black metal band. Alongside Ylwizaker, the band began exploring a more electronic and avant-garde style, highlighted by the trip-hop cult classic City of doom in the year 2000.
Ylwizaker's keyboards remained a major part of Ulver's sound on the many albums the band has released since. He also had notable production and mixing credits for records by Ihsahn, Mayhem, Star of Ash, Arcturus and more.
Serious consequence We send our condolences to Ylwizaker’s family, friends and bandmates during this difficult time. You can see the band’s tribute post on social media below.
