Just 12 hours after the release of her third album, Hit hard and softat midnight on Friday (May 17), Billie Eilish unveiled the project's first music video: a flirty, '90s-inspired visual for the song “Lunch.”
Shot with an overexposed, grainy filter, the '90s-inspired video finds the 22-year-old pop star singing as she models a variety of her signature oversized clothing, featuring baggy tees and snapbacks. As the song builds, Eilish's backdrop changes from a blank white to vibrant primary colors, with the singer dancing with clones of herself on screen.
“I could eat this girl for lunch, she dances on my tongue,” sings Eilish on the upbeat dance track. “It tastes like she's the one/ And I'll never get enough/ I could buy her so many things/ It's a longing, not a crush.”
Produced by Eilish's older brother and longtime collaborator Finneas, Hit hard and soft has a total of 10 pieces. (See them sorted here.) The two-time Academy Award winner's debut album follows When we all fall asleep, where do we go? and sophomore effort Happier than everwhich both spent three weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
“This whole process felt like I was going back to the girl I was,” she said Rolling rock in April Hit hard and soft. “I was upsetting her. I was looking for her in everything, and it's almost like she was drowned out by the world and the media. I don't remember when he left.”
