Eminem is the best-selling rapper of all time, with more than 220 million albums sold throughout his Hall of Fame career. In what is usually labeled as the youth genre, Em defeated Father Time and remained a commercial force for over 25 years.
In July, the Detroit legend returned with his first project since 2020 Music to be murdered byas The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grace) confronted Em to kill his alter ego feature throughout the concept LP.
It was business as usual with Eminem's 12th studio album debuting atop the Billboard 200 with 281,000 total equivalent album units sold in its first week, ending Taylor Swift's three-month reign at No. 1 back Department of Tormented Poets.
The win gave Em his 11th chart-topping album. It also did some damage, invading the Billboard Hot 100 — taking up real estate at 16 spots on this week's chart.
Looking back, Eminem's debut Inexperienced The album quietly arrived in 1996 and the project failed to chart. After connecting with Dr. Dre and signed to Aftermath Entertainment/Interscope Records, Em's major label debut The Slim Shady LP served as the proper introduction of Em. The sophomore effort reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and was knocked off the top spot by TLC FanMail.
However, this would be the last time Eminem was denied a top spot on the Billboard 200, as every subsequent solo album has debuted at No. 1 since then.
