Sha'Carri Richardson, the defending women's 100-meter world champion, will bid to make the U.S. Olympic women's track and field team this weekend. All eyes will no doubt be on Sha'Carri Richardson after she was denied the chance to sprint for gold in 2021.
As reported by NBC News, Sha'Carri Richardson, 24, enters this weekend's U.S. Olympic track and field trials in Eugene, Ore., as the favorite after setting the top qualifying time in the 100 at 10.65 seconds.
Richardson is hoping to qualify for the 2024 Games in Paris after being suspended for a month after the Olympic trials after testing positive for THC which kept her out of the Tokyo Games. If she qualifies, it will be Richardson's first Olympic appearance.
More than NBC News:
In the women's 100m event, Richardson aims to break her own records and achieve her Olympic dream after missing out on the 2020 Tokyo Games after testing positive for cannabis.
….
Richardson ran her fastest time in the 100 meters at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, in August. Her 10.65 was just off the world record of 10.49 seconds set by American star Florence Griffith-Joyner in 1988.
There will be four races in the qualifying round of the 100s, of which Richardson will be in the fourth race. The top six sprinters in each of the quartet of races and the top three fastest across the finish line will advance to the semi-finals.
With all eyes sure to be on her, Sha'Carri Richardson will take to the track for the women's 100 at 8:53 ET/5:53 PT. The semi-finals will be held on Saturday (22nd June) at 9pm. ET/6 p.m. PT.
The NBA, USA Network and Peacock will air select portions of the tryouts. Check your local listings.
