For the third and final single from Whythe upcoming LP, The Work of a Dolistthe emcee/producer pays homage to the Golden Age of hip-hop and his hometown of Malmo, Sweden in his raw, black-and-white video for “Dolo the Icon (Malmoe, Malmoe).”
The video was shot on location in the southern suburbs of the Swedish city, a place where many people live in poverty and some, as a result, resort to a life of crime. For Why-D, he saw an opportunity to shine a light on his former venues, as well as follow up on his previous Malmö anthem, 2003's 'Rock Island (Dirty South Anthem)'.
“I was born and raised here,” explains Why-D. “Malmo will always be me, whether I like it or not, whether it's good or bad. It's an honest portrayal of his hometown and combines it lyrically and visually with references to the '80s and '90s as well as hip-hop legends like LL Cool J, Notorious BIG and Prodigy. And as a nice bonus for fans watching the extended version, Why-D has created a documentary for “Dolo the Icon” featuring more footage of Malmö combined with a moody instrumental.
