Crate Digging is a series of articles by Consequence which delves into music history to uncover several albums that every music fan should know. In this edition, the members of rising group KATSEYE talk about the girl groups that shaped their musical identities.
The young people who make it up KATSEY'S EYE have a mission. In a time of plenty for international pop groups, their story is quite unique: KATSEYE was formed through a program called The debut: Dream Academywhich narrowed down a field of 20 hopeful women from around the world to the final lineup of just six.
But the milestone of officially debuting as a team isn't a goal for Sophia, Manon, Daniela, Lara, Megan, and Yoonchae, who hail from the Philippines, Switzerland, the United States, and South Korea. Instead, this is just their starting point, much like their extravagant first single album, titled TapThey have already followed it up with a new EP, SIS (Soft is strong)available today.

We wanted to include a laugh track in the song, so we had a lot of fun jumping around, laughing, and just enjoying ourselves.”
Next week, fans who have already fallen in love with his music, or who have followed his journey on The debut: Dream Academy — will be able to enjoy a deep dive into its next chapter with a Netflix documentary, titled Pop Star Academy: KATSEYEwhich will be released on August 21st.
