Finding the right one Summer outdoor gear can turn even the toughest run into a walk in the park — and boy, do we spend a lot of time outdoors during the season. While, yes, we could wear jean shorts and a tank top for most activities, depending on how intense things get out there (and the temperature), not wearing the right clothing can lead to chafing, sweat, reduced mobility or everything else. the above. Enter: Kühl.
We write about hundreds of products a week (including hiking essentials), but Kühl has some of our favorite outdoor gear thanks to their breathable fabrics, next-to-skin comfort, and superior durability. In other words, they'll make everything from your weekend hikes to open ocean sailing better, not harder. They have casual summer styles (aka pants paired with linen that you won't want to rip off after a day in the heat) and exclusive sun protection fabrics (UPF 50+) that will allow you to stay active while maintaining the maximum amount of coverage possible (no tans farmer here).
Below, we've rounded up some of our recent favorites that have already received the stamp of approval from happy shoppers and are now on our wish lists — including hiking gear, summer pieces we didn't know we needed, and possibly the best belt bag we've discovered as we browse their vast outdoor offerings. You don't even have to be in your Justin Timberlake Man of the Woods-time to appreciate these ruggedly beautiful options — you just need to be ready for your next adventure.
Short getaway
Eco-consciousness and sustainability have become a major concern—if not a requirement—for most shoppers (including us). We've got our eye on these Getaway shorts from Kühl that deliver on the green front, using a hemp fabric blend that also has the added benefit of making these super lightweight. Kühl's design philosophy translates into a pair of shorts that can transition seamlessly between working outdoors (thank you UPF 50+ protection!) and lounging around. The shorts are also quick drying, super stretchy and we can't wait to rock them at the beach bar after a surf session.
Escape Sling Pack
“This sling bag is durable enough to take on a hike, and the waterproof material would keep my belongings dry,” she says. Tim Chan, Associate Vice President of Editorial & Commercial. “But I like the look and feel and would wear it for everyday work, commuting and occasional outings too. I love the sturdy construction, sporty design and minimalistic branding, which make it an easy bag for style and utility.”
Deceptr Chinos
If you're looking for hiking pants that double as everyday pants (for example, for the office or running errands) check out these Deceptrs from Kühl. Don't let their chino look fool you – they're actually made from trail-ready Tufflite fabric (a blend of nylon, polyester and spandex). This special fabric is both stretchy and durable enough for tough hikes, has water-repellent powers with a DWR finish, and even helps block UV rays. Whether you're facing your boss in the boardroom or a bear on the trail, we think these look great for any occasion.
Women's Vantage Gym Shorts
Our vice president of commerce Jessica Seib, recently ran a half marathon and eyed these Vantage Trainer shorts for her next pair. Kühl fabrics are known for their lightweight flexibility, but their shorts are also great for running and intense workouts. You have a quick drying, four-way stretch construction, a wide variety of colors and four different style options: gym, short, sweatshirt and pants. We're also big fans of the pocket setup here, with two front pockets and hidden storage on the back of the belt to keep your phone or keys close to your person.
Free Radikl pants
These Free Radikl hiking pants look like they'll be a hot addition to our wardrobe — especially in the summer. They feature panels that run vertically across the thighs, below the knee and at the waist which provide some pretty impressive stretch in all directions. This makes the Free Radikl one of the most versatile outdoor pants, and we would easily use them for light climbing, yoga and jogging as well. While stretchy and super lightweight, the pant still packs some toughness in the form of UPF 50+ sun protection and water resistance for light showers or splashes.
Plain Pants
We're always looking for easy-to-pack, warm-weather-ready clothes for traveling (we all are often jet set), and these Cabo pants definitely make the cut. Casual yet sophisticated, they're made from cotton linen that's light and breathable enough to run through an airport, but still substantial enough to wear out in the hotel bar when you land. The sun protection fabric and hidden zip pocket on the thigh for easy and secure fit also make them extra traveler friendly.
Resistor Lite Chino Short
Designed to feel almost weightless, we can't resist these ultra-slim Resistor chino shorts. They're stretchy enough for relaxation, but their abrasion-resistant nylon construction makes them much more durable than other chino shorts. To make the package even better, they're still soft to the touch and stylish enough to wear out on the trail.
Renegade Pant
A favorite of hikers in the heat (and us, who just want some breathable summer running pants), it gets a lot easier to get around in these Renegade pants when the temperatures rise. The pants use Kühl's Duralex fabric (a nylon-spandex blend) along with articulated designs for more flexibility and breathability. The Renegade pant doesn't skimp on convenience either – there are eight pockets here, two leg pockets, velcro'd back pockets, a stealth phone pocket and zipped waist pockets offering plenty of space for your gadgets, snacks and other essentials.
Cargo Silencer Shorts
Durable, bulky cargo shorts with a million pockets are great, but some of us still prefer a classic, no frills option. I've been on the hunt for the perfect cargo shorts for years, and these Silencr shorts are exactly what I've been looking for. They have seven low-profile pockets for maximum storage, but have a cleaner, sleeker look. Although the shorts are on the slimmer side, the four-way stretch ensures they won't restrict you from moving more if you're cycling or hiking — they really are the most anonymous cargo.
Kühl Engineered Hat
It's a constant battle in the summer between protecting your face from the sun and not having to keep the stuffiest hat on your head. Kühl's Engineered hat is impeccably, well, made, and may have to come with us on our next vacation — it does everything you want a sun hat to do (wicks moisture, resists odor, and offers UPF 20+ protection), but has the added benefit of being buoyant enough to stay afloat for easy retrieval during any water sports activities. Its flexible foam lip also makes it ideal for packing — what more could we ask for?
