This is the 10th EP from the Harlem emcee 100 Grand Royces. Starting out as a member of Stackboys, he finally went solo in 2011, though it wasn't until the release of his 5th EP. Prodigal Sun produced by 183rd in the spring of 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic where it came to my attention. Return, TRIPLE CROWN & Unfinished business they would all reach the threshold where Prodigal Sun had set & The fix here produced by Dame Grease it really piqued my interest.
“Shine” gets the ball rolling by incorporating handclaps into a fuzzy instrumental interspersed with the “Wu-Gambinos” hook and grinding until the AM, while “Above the Clouds” talks about nightmares ending up working like everyone else out here. a flute along with kicks & snares. “Cheri Amor” takes to a packed lawn paying tribute to his sweet love just before “On Me” returns to boom bap refusing to chase a chicken after being called a few times.
Kicking off the 2nd leg of the EP, “The Last Gone Be First” brings those booming piano chords into the fold, talking about being cool as the bag leads right into “Block to the Bank” with BerryA bringing a more jazzy music to the beats. going for dollars. “One of a Kind” brings back the kicks and snares talking about being unique, but then “My Just Due” wraps up The Fix in some straight dirty shit bragging about getting the key to the city from the players .
Lo and behold: The fix it's the most I've enjoyed a 100GrandRoyce project since Unfinished business. His production gives a timeless and captivating sound that combines hard hitting beats with soulful melodies, the chemistry is evident as they effortlessly complement each other's styles and is a testament to the power of storytelling as well as the resilience of the human spirit that he offers check out reality of life on the road, while conveying messages of hope, perseverance and the pursuit of dreams.
