Younger generations of rappers continue to tap Charlie Wilson to add his distinctive sound to their catalogs.
Last week, Don Toliver recruited Wilson and Cash Cobain for “Attitude” from his upcoming fourth album Hardstone Psycho, which will be released June 14 via Cactus Jack and Atlantic Records. Toliver previously played Uncle Charlie on “If I Had” from his latest studio album Love sick.
Nas also enlisted him for two back-to-back album features: Wilson appeared on “Car #85” on his 2020 album King's disease and then on “No Phony Love” on Nas' 2021 album King's Disease II.
In addition to being a featured artist, the 71-year-old legend has provided background vocals for rappers like Tyler, the Creator — on “EARQUAKE,” featuring Playboi Carti and “I DON'T LOVE YOU ANYMORE” from the 2019 Grammys — winning album Igor — and Aminé, from contributing vocals on “Veggies” and “Turf” to featuring on “Dakota” from his 2017 debut album Good for you. “I really enjoyed working with Tyler because he's different than anyone, like Pharrell [Williams] he was different when he first came. I have fun with all of them,” said the 13-time Grammy nominee. Variety earlier this year when he was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
While the Backstreet Boys-lifting “Everybody” didn't end up on Ye (formerly Kanye West) and Ty Dolla $ign's Billboard 200-topping album. VULTURES 1Ye and Uncle Charlie have recorded several tracks together in the past, from “No Mistakes” from the former's 2018 album you on “Bound 2” from the 2013 album Yeezus on “All of the Lights” from the 2010 album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.

BROCKHAMPTON's Romil Hemnani said during a MTV Fresh Out Live interview. “And he was kind enough to do it, so we sent him the song and he loved it, he did his Charlie Wilson thing and it's one of my favorite songs on the album now.”

Guapdad 4000 recruited Wilson and Chance the Rapper “Gucci Pajamas” from his 2019 debut album Dior deposits. The Oakland MC broke down in his Genius verified comment how he met Wilson during one of Guapdad's cage matches and the two hit the studio afterwards.
“We made good music. We've been best friends ever since. My uncle,” he wrote, later explaining how Wilson was brought up again during a brainstorming session with The Stereotypes, who produced “Gucci Pajamas.” “I wanted to put the song in there, we were thinking about tight-sounding people…. I don't know if it was me or Ray who mentioned it [Romulus] brought it up, but in any case, Uncle Charlie was brought up. And I kind of called his bluff. I didn't know he even knew you. So I pulled his card. I was like, Oh, if you know him so well, take him. And he was like, done. And then we left it out there. I did a download, I did some songs. Wilson and Jessy Wilson provided backing vocals for the Tyler's “EARTHQUAKE”, featuring Playboi Carti, from his 2019 album Igor, which topped both the Billboard 200 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. It also won Best Rap album at the 2020 Grammy Awards, marking Tyler's first career Grammy win. “EARQUAKE” reached No. 13 on the Hot 100 and No. 5 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, making it his highest charting hit on both charts to date, as well as No. 28 on Rhythmic Airplay.
Last month, Tyler brought him out to perform “EARQUAKE” during his Coachella headlining set. “Every time I write a damn song with vocals, I copy this n—a here! Motaf – the biggest king, the legend, that n—a is still here killing it, man,” Tyler told the crowd after their show.
