Hanson is celebrating the 20th anniversary of his independent album 'Underneath' with a deluxe re-release and a North American tour that will include two nights in each city, reviewing both acoustic and electric performances. They share how the Grateful Dead influenced their career blueprint, their hit “MMMBop,” their connection with Billie Eillish and Ed Sheeran, and more!
Rebeca Milzoff:
I feel like every few years something exciting always happens in the Hanson world and right now you're celebrating the 20th anniversary of your first independent album, 'Underneath'. There is a deluxe reissue called 'Underneath: Complete' that I recommend everyone listen to and revisit. You're also on a North American tour, which is a cool concept. You're going to spend two nights in each city, right?
Hanson:
Going back to when we started promoting this album 'Underneath', 20 years ago, we started by doing an acoustic tour and ended that whole album cycle by doing an electric tour. We thought, well, if we're going to remember this record, let's remember the whole experience for the fans, especially the ones that came out, that it was a huge transformation of Hanson's identity, the spirit, that really solidified. I think people knew who we were as a band from the second album. But 'Underneath' is our third album, and we had to leave the label and become independent, and that relationship with the fans changed somewhat. Quite significantly. It was like, we know you like this band, but are you going to support it? Will you help us do something to start again? 'Underneath' is celebrated through this tour in a great way. We're doing an acoustic and electric night and the album itself.
Keep watching for more!
