Welcome to the debut episode of In defense of ska Season 4, which also marks the series' addition to the Consequence Podcast Network! For such a momentous event, hosts Aaron Carnes and Adam Davis knew they had to do it big: 311 big.
In this episode, the band's bassist P-Nut joins the duo to talk all things ska, from his own place in the genre's history to rubbing shoulders with artists like Fishbone, Voodoo Glow Skulls, The Urge, Reel Big Fish, Goldfinger and the newly reunited No Doubt. He takes a look at 311's most ska-influenced track, “I'll Be Here A While,” as well as his love for new acts inspired by the style, including 100 gecs.
“I'm a big fan, a nerd,” he admits. “I want to be Dylan's substitute. [Brady]really… I think those kids really know what they are doing.”
Additionally, the crew dives into 311's gig opening for Fugazi, covering Red Hot Chili Peppers' “Taste the Pain” at a high school talent show and Eric Andre's infamous “Investigate 311” joke.
Listen to 311's P-Nut talk about ska, 100 gecs, Fugazi and more above. You also can follow the series wherever you get your podcastor get early, ad-free episodes by joining the GONE Patreon. Don't forget to check out all of the Consequence Podcast Network series here.
