This week's batch of new country tunes features George Strait offering a tender, focused take on life's important moments, while Luke Combs brings songs from her family-focused album. Fathers & Sons.
Meanwhile, Carter Faith teams up with Alison Krauss for a heartbreaking anthem, Don Lewis delivers a dance-worthy earworm, and Jenna Paulette delves into her country roots.
George Strait, “The Little Things”
Straight's warm, talkative and soulful voice deftly lends an introspective melody to the myriad moments—a sunset, a gentle rain, spending time with loved ones, or “an old Merle Haggard song”—that imbue life with joy. Enhanced by tender strings, this ballad is featured on Strait's upcoming album, Cowboys & Dreamerswhich is set for September 6. Strait has always had a great song and his latest, which he co-wrote with Bubba Strait and Monty Criswell, proves that the King never misses.
Luke Combs, “Remember Him This Way”
This two-time CMA Entertainer of the Year winner celebrated Father's Day with the album's twelve-song ode to the lifelong arc of family bonds between dads and their sons Fathers & Sons.
In one song from the album, “Remember Him That Way”, he vividly remembers all the ways he thought of his father as strong and reliable throughout his life and muse as his father grows older and weaker. the breast begins to fade/ But I'll always remember him like this.' Combs wrote the song with Jonathan Singleton, Erik Dylan and Jessi Alexander.
Combs has scored 17 Billboard Country Airplay No. But with his new album, he recalibrates the depths of his music, bringing fans deeper into his current perspective as a father of two young boys, while also encompassing universal themes of generational relationships between parents and their children.
Don Louis, “Liquor Talkin'”
Given the success of a string of massive hits coming together this summer that blend pop and hip-hop beats with country twang and rustic bar-inspired lyrics, Don Louis' latest seems like a natural candidate for the next global country band.
“Not a doctor, not a lawyer/ I feel like right now I can do anything,” sings Lewis, who has a sharp drawl that commands attention. Set against a catchy, hip-hop groove built for dance, “Liquor Talkin'” captures the confidence-boosting effects of a night out. Louis co-wrote the song with Cale Dodds and Thomas Kipp Williams, and the song is the title track from his upcoming album, out August 23rd via EMPIRE / Money Myers Entertainment LLC.
Jenna Paulette, “Wild Is Her Favorite Color”
Paulette paints a musical portrait of an independent woman who knows what she likes, from her favorite country song ('Ready to Run' by The Chicks) and her favorite drink (tequila sunrise) to her favorite passionate shade – and no, It's not fire engine red, but rather, as Paulette puts it, “A slightly deeper shade of dangerous.” Paulette's bright voice adds a perfect blend of spice and sugar, adding a mysterious undertone to this bright, breezy production. “Wild Is Her Favorite Color” is from her upcoming album Horsebackreleased on September 6th.
Carter Faith and Alison Krauss, “Blue Bird”
Carter Faith, recently signed to UMG Nashville, teams up with one of the brightest voices in country and bluegrass, Alison Krauss, for the new song 'Blue Bird'. Faith more than holds her own with an ethereal soprano that pairs superbly with Krauss' backing vocals. This dazzling meditation on the wrenching pain of teenage heartbreak finds Faith asking, “Is that why you're blue? Is that why you sing the way you do?' Faith wrote the song with Tofer Brown and Lauren Hungate.
