Thomas Rhett, “Church”
Thomas Rhett's new album, About a womanfilled with romantic songs about his relationship with his wife Lauren. Among them is “Church,” which recounts days of idyllic early romance through the lens of various songs by singer-songwriter Eric Church, including “Sinners Like Me” and “Springsteen,” which are part of their love story. Nostalgia and vivid history songs have always been staples of TR's music catalog, and here he combines images of Church's signature Ray-Ban sunglasses and red bandana with memories of the moments when Church's songs served as the soundtrack to her milestones relationship. As always, TR brings a conversational tone to his music, perfect for this autobiographical track.
Amythyst Kiah feat. Billy Strings, “I Will Not Go Down”
Kiah and bluegrass luminary Strings team up for this powerful statement of self-preservation and fortitude. Kiah turns in a regal, determined performance as Strings elevates this vocal and fleet-fingered track even further. “If I'm to be alone/I'll slay the beast alone,” sings Kiah. “I Will Not Go Down” appears on Kiah's upcoming album Still + Brightout October 25th on Rounder Records.
Maggie Antone, “One Too Many”
Virginia native Antone is poised as one of country music's most fearless young artists thanks to her off-color songwriting, vocal yearning and viral hits like the recent “Johnny Moonshine.”
Like all the songs on her new album, Strassout now on Love Big/Thirty Tigers, this solo-penned track from Antone is churned with clever tracks, indescribable slice-of-life depictions (in this song's case, the highs and lows of a night on the town) and country-drenched of honky-tonk, steered by Antone's distinctive twang. In “One Too Many”, she enjoys a night out with some of her friends – Jack Daniel's, Johnnie Walker and Mary Jane, who “got together and stoned me”. Although later in the song he wakes up to the hazy consequences of such a night out, he's honest about the relentless allure of trying it all again the following weekend.
Nate Smith, “Fix What You Did Break”
Smith has scored two Billboard Country Airplay No. 1 hits and looks poised to add country-rock builds to his repertoire with his latest. The production here delves into growing 2000s pop rock, with slightly distorted vocals and soaring guitars, all of which propel this soul-saving tale as he thanks his lover for looking past his emotional wreckage from past breakups and aimed to “fix what you didn't break”. As always, his voice is a gem. “Fix What You Didn't Break” is from the upcoming album, California goldreleased on October 4th.
Drew Green feat. HARDY, “Colorado”
If this exciting Green/HARDY collaboration sounds familiar, it's because Florida Georgia Line previously released this song in 2019. Written by HARDY, Green and Hunter Phelps, this radio-ready party anthem finds them breaking out of heartbreak in Appalachia thanks to good friends, plenty of alcohol and other vices. This rocking track is sure to find an audience with fans of the weekend and fans of any artist's music.
