With its eclectic fusions Música Mexicana and Latin pop, Ana Bárbara has not only shaped Mexico's local genre, but rightfully earned her title La Reina Grupera (the queen of grouper music).
In celebration of her 30-year career that ultimately defined the grupero genre through 11 studio albums and various Advertising sign hits including “Me Asusta Pero Me Gusta” and “La Trampa,” Ana Bárbara will be honored with the Music Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2024 Billboard Latin Women in Music ceremony airing Sunday (June 9) on Telemundo.
“With so much going on in life, to be alive is a miracle,” he said recently Advertising sign. “Why in 30 years how many stories could have been written? How many were part of my songs? I can't express enough thanks for the gratitude that my heart feels, without a doubt.”
In addition to her heartfelt creations, powerful vocals and stunning looks, the San Luis Potosi native is also a passionate songwriter. Not only did he write some of her biggest hits, such as “No Es Brujería” and “Que Poca Solos”, he also composed songs for other artists.
“The song part is very exciting,” he expressed. “It's like, 'Oh my god, I thought of that! Where does it come from? Which part of the universe? Where was my soul?' […] The creative process is like an adrenaline rush. Also, you know a feeling has crystallized, if you can call it that. A feeling that took shape.”

Angela Aguilar, “En Realidad”
Ángela Aguilar's lively and romantic Western-style tune 'En Realidad' – about her confession of love for her best friend – was a song written by Ana Bárbara and given to Aguilar. The latter artist will be honored with the Music Dynasty Award at Billboard Latin Women in Music 2024. However, “En Realidad” — which was released amid the pandemic and became a viral dance sensation on TikTok — was originally intended for Belinda, according to Univision.

Leonardo, Ángela & Majo Aguilar, “Lo Busqué”
In 2022, Ángela, Majo and Leonardo Aguilar released a moving acoustic tune called “Lo Busqué”. The rustic colored piece tells the story of someone searching for a healthy and loving heart. While new generations may think this is an original bop from the talented Aguilar cousins, it's actually a song Ana first wrote and performed in 2004.

Los Elegidos, “Fruta Prohibida”
Many artists have covered the timeless 'Fruta Prohibida' (Forbidden Fruit), a remarkable song about two old lovers who reconnect while one is already in a relationship. Originally, the piece was written by Ana Bárbara and performed by her brothers, who were part of the regional Mexican band Los Elegidos. In 2021, the singer recorded the song herself.

Maria Jose, “Vete”
As part of her 2012 album María José…De Noche, the Mexican singer (and former lead singer of the popular 90s band Kabah) released a track titled “Vete”, written by Ana Bárbara. The song showcases Anna's effortless visuals that can range from a sassy groupie song to a powerful pop ballad. “Get out of here forever, I don't wanna see you no more,” goes part of the chorus.

Pepe Aguilar, “Es Culpa Mía”
For the 2022 studio album, A La Medida, Pepe Aguilar included a melancholic mariachi song called “Es Culpa Mía” (it's my fault) written by Ana Bárbara. With lyrics like “Yeah, I failed her for not saying no to another woman” and “I lost the love of my life,” Aguilar rants about breaking up a relationship due to infidelity.
