Lord Spikeheart: Adept [Haekalu]
Nairobi singer, songwriter and producer Lord Spikeheart is best known for his work with Kenyan noise duo Duma. Adept is Lord Spikeheart's solo debut and he previewed the LP with “TYVM” (with Saionji BBBBBBB), “REM feed” (with James Ginzburg and Koenraad Ecker), and “Emblem Blame” (featuring Talpah). The new album is the first release on the musician's new label, Haekalu Recordsdescribed in press material as “Africa's leading label focused on dark and heavy music”.

Great|Brave: A mess of flowers [Thrill Jockey]
Big|Brave has been longlisted for the 2021 Polaris Music Prize for Vital. They did it again in 2023 for Nature Morte. The Montreal trio are now releasing a new album, A mess of flowers. Big|Brave guitarist and singer Robin Wattie was inspired by poems by Emily Dickinson and others when writing the new album. “I found that most poems from folk traditions or from the public domain seemed to be male—which I couldn't quite relate to. In my search, I rediscovered some of my favorite works and poets,” he said in a press statement. “It's really a feeling of kinship and even surprise, with how these writers of different places and times and all present women, each expressing these seemingly similar intense moments of individual experiences, intimacy and madness. We are alone and yet not.”
