Lil Nas X took to social media to apologize for the controversial 'J Christ' video that has given the artist some backlash.
The latest Lil Nas X's single and music video sparked backlash that forced the artist to issue an apology via social media. On Monday (Jan. 15), Lil Nas X addressed critics of “J Christ,” which was released last Friday (Jan. 12). In a four-minute video shared in a post on X, formerly Twitter, the rapper began by saying he wanted to “Explain to me where my head is,” in his words.
He stated that he was not necessarily apologizing for the song, but acknowledged that he may have gone wrong in promoting the single. “It's not to try to get everyone on my good side or anything. This is more to clear my head about my own decisions. I know I messed up real bad this time,” said the “Old Town Road” artist while casually donning a hoodie. “And I can act cool all I want, but it's definitely affecting me mentally.” Lil Nas X would also state that he was expecting some heat because “Religion is a touchy subject,” but he wasn't aiming to make fun of anyone's faith. “I didn't mean to make fun. This was not a “f—k you to you people, f—k you to the Christians.” It wasn't that. It was “I came back like Jesus,” he continued. “I'm not the first person to dress up as Jesus. I'm not the first rapper, I'm not the first artist and I won't be the last.”
In closing, Lil Nas X said, “I was put on this earth to bring people closer together and promote love. That's who I am. I am not an evil demon trying to destroy someone's values. It's not me.” The “J Christ” video has become a trigger for many to criticize the artist for what they see as disrespect, with media figures such as player Kai Cenat and artists such as Hurricane Chris releasing their own videos saying that he must find “something else to play with. except Jesus.”
