Ice Spice she will now have to defend her name in court. One of her peers says she lifted a big part from his song for “In Ha Mood”.
Digital Music News is reference that the Bronx, New York native is suing a Brooklyn MC over an alleged shark bite. On Wednesday, January 17, D. Chamberz (born Duval Chamberlain) filed a lawsuit in Brooklyn Federal Court against Ice Spice. She claims that her 2023 hit “In Ha Mood” took cues from her 2021 single “In That Mood”. The documents filed detail his complaint saying that “by any method of analysis, 'In Ha Mood' is a fake. Any proper comparative analysis of the beat, lyrics, hook, rhythmic structure, metric placement, and narrative context will prove that “In Ha Mood” was copied or derived primarily from “In That Mood.”
His legal team will also claim that the similarities have been noticed by Hip-Hop fans prior to the filing. “Non-expert listeners have independently pointed out that the defendants 'stole' 'In Ha Mood' by creating 'In Ha Mood,'” his lawyer wrote. “The two songs clearly use many noticeably similar compositional and lyrical elements, resulting in a very similar sound and feel.”
They also speculate that Ice Spice producer RIOTUSA was familiar with “In That Mood” saying he posted an Instagram story of him listening to New York radio station HOT97 minutes before the song was played. Additionally, the lawsuit points to RIOTUSA's father, DJ ENUFF, a HOT97 radio personality, who “actively engaged with D. Chamberz's social media content.”
Ice Spice has yet to publicly comment on the matter. You can listen to “In That Mood” below.
