Phosphorescent (aka Matthew Houck) has announced a new album, Revealingand shared his first single, the title track, via a music video. Revealing is due out on April 5 via Verve, his first for the label. Watch the “Revelator” video below, followed by the tracklist and album art.
Houck said of the new song in a press release:
“This is the song that made me realize I was writing an album.
There is always someone who does this
Until then, I'm kind of floundering with a bunch of song tracks in various stages
No clear picture of what I'm doing
The song “Revelator” was once made.
I could see what the album could be
I really struggled to name the album Revelator
As I feel it probably has some biblical and idyllic connotations
That's not true of this album or Phosphorescent at all
But I finally know what I mean by that
And the album really couldn't be called anything else
And that's what the title track is for
I think it might be the best song I've ever written.”
Houck produced the album and recorded it at his studio in Nashville. Collaborators on the album include Jack Lawrence of The Raconteurs and Jim White of the Dirty Three. Houck's collaborator—singer/songwriter/pianist Jo Schornikow—wrote “The World Is Ending” for the album, making it the first luminescent song not written by Houck.
Phosphorescent's latest album of original songs, That's lifereleased in 2018 via Dead Oceans.
