Metallica won Best Metal Performance at the 2024 Grammy Awards on Sunday (February 4) for their song “72 Seasons,” the title track from their 2023 album. The trophy was presented during the “Premiere Ceremony” transmitted and bassist Robert Trujillo accepted it on behalf of the band.
With boyngeius and Paramore dominating the other rock categories, Metallica was the only heavy group to win a Grammy this year. The legendary metal group beat out Disturbed, Ghost, Slipknot and Spiritbox for the honor. In total, Metallica has won nine Grammy Awards, the most for any metal band.
“I just want to say that Lars, James and Kirk couldn't be here because they are with their families, and families are everything to all of us,” Trujillo began during his acceptance speech. “I live in Southern California, so it's a little easier.”
He added: “We want to thank Greg Fidelman, our incredible producer, and our recording team. This is like a family. When you make an album like this, you play, you collaborate. …. Keep those instruments in your hands. Let's keep the young people making music and keep the dream alive.”
Metallica was also nominated for Best Rock Album and Best Rock Performance, but lost to Paramore and boygenius, respectively, in those categories. See the full list of 2024 Grammy Awards winners here.
