The rapper had won three Grammys less than two hours before he was taken away in handcuffs at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
Killer Mike was arrested at the 66th Grammy Awards at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday afternoon, shortly after winning three of the four rap categories in the pre-show telecast about two hours earlier.
Video taken by The Hollywood Reporter's Chris Gardner showed Mike, whose real name is Michael Render, being led away in handcuffs. Gardner cited an official as saying the arrest was related to an unspecified misdemeanor unrelated to any events during Sunday's Grammys. A spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department said Rolling rock they had no information to provide as of press time.
The arrest came shortly after Mike, whose real name is Michael Render, had taken to the press area fielding questions about his win – excited to be recognized after more than 20 years in his hip-hop career. “It feels absolutely wonderful,” Render said. “If you feel like some people are crossing the finish line first, don't worry. Just keep running your race. The only thing stopping you is your imagination. It is our responsibility to be great in every action.”
Today's Grammys marked the first time Render won a Grammy for his solo work. His first Grammy win came more than two decades ago for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group with Outkast for “The Whole World.” Prior to 2024, he was last nominated in 2018 for Best Rap Song for “Chase Me,” the Run the Jewels collaboration with Danger Mouse and Big Boi.
