Taylor Swift opens the doors to the Tortured Poets Department on April 19, and fans are losing their minds.
“TAYLOR CALLING HERSELF ‘THE CHAIRMAN OF THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT?!?!?!?’ THERE IS NO BETTER DESCRIPTION FOR THE DEVASTATING MIX OF BEAUTY, ARTISTRY, AND GRUESOME SOUL BARING THAT SHE BRINGS TO EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF MUSIC SHE PENS,” one fan exclaimed in a tweet Sunday night (Feb. 4), soon after Swift stunned Swifties with the announcement of a new album coming out on April 19.
The pop icon made the reveal while accepting the award for best pop vocal album at the 2024 Grammys.
“This is my 13th Grammy – which is my lucky number, I don’t know if I’ve ever told you that. I want to say thank you to the members of the Recording Academy for voting this way. I know the way the Recording Academy voted is a direct reflection of the passion of the fans. So I want to say thank you to the fans by telling you a secret that I’ve been keeping from you for the last two years,” she teased, “which is that my brand new album comes out April 19. It’s called The Tortured Poets Department. I’m gonna go and post the cover right now backstage. Thank you, I love you.”
“All’s fair in love and poetry,” Swift wrote on social media, where she posted the cover art and shared the following, signed “The Chairman of The Tortured Poets Department”:
And so I enter into evidence
My tarnished coat of arms
My muses acquired like bruises
My talismans and charms
The tick, tick, tick of love bombs
My veins of pitch black ink
