Fans tuning into Super Bowl 2024 on Sunday (February 11) got a nasty surprise during one of the first commercial breaks. After more than a year since filming began, the first trailer for Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo's live-action adaptation of Bad it finally revealed itself between plays in the first quarter.
In the trailer, Grande dazzles as Glinda the Good Witch opposite Erivo's Elphaba. The two characters' first meeting is captured in a sneak peek, with the 'Positions' singer gasping audibly as she watches the Harriet star and says, “You're green!”
Clips of Grande singing “For Good” and Erivo belting out “Defying Gravity” were also included in the minute-long trailer, as were appearances from BridgertonJonathan Bailey, who plays Fierro. Jeff Goldblum, who plays the Wizard of Oz. and Michelle Yeoh, who stars as Madame Morrible.
The live adaptation of the Broadway musical by director Jon M. Chu Bad — which was adapted from Gregory Maguire's bestselling novel of the same name — was shot in the UK over the past year and also features Ethan Slater and Bowen Young in the cast. The project will arrive in two parts: the first feature will premiere on Thanksgiving Day and the second scheduled for 2025.
In January, the “Yes, And?” The musician wrote on Instagram Stories that she was “constantly and preferentially intertwined” with Erivo, Chu and the rest of the film's cast. “I will never forget a single minute of our years together [Glinda],” she added. “No words yet. But. Thank you, John, for leading the way with so much compassion, transparency, brilliance and kindness.”
