A memoir by Alex Van Halen titled siblings is scheduled for release on October 22 via HarperCollins.
The 384-page hardcover autobiography is a surprise given how private Alex has been since the passing of his brother Eddie Van Halen in 2020. HarperCollins will also publish a 720-minute audiobook and e-book edition in addition to the physical hardcover .
Although limited details are currently available, HarperCollins Advance revealed the book's working title, “The Van Halen Brothers.” We can assume that the book will follow Alex and Eddie's rise to rock stardom as Van Halen's drummer and guitar wizard, respectively.
Famously, the two almost had roles reversed, as they traded instruments as kids before Eddie stuck with the guitar forever. The seeds of Van Halen were planted when the brothers formed their first band Mammoth in 1972 before teaming up with singer David Lee Roth and bassist Michael Anthony to form the classic Van Halen lineup two years later.
As mentioned, Alex has stayed away from any conversations involving a possible Van Halen reunion or tribute. This includes Sammy Hagar’s upcoming “Best of All Worlds” tour (tickets available here), which will lean heavily on Van Halen material.
The Red Rocker even went so far as to invite Roth and Alex Van Halen to join him on stage during the outing, although Hagar has since said that she feels Alex doesn't want to perform without his brother there.
“Mike and I, 20 years ago, got together,” Hagar explained in a recent interview. “And this year 20 years have passed. I'm leaving, I don't have another 20 years to wait for Alex Van Halen, who is the only one left. So he didn't want to do it? You know, I guess he just doesn't like playing without his brother. Don't blame him. God bless you.”
